The 142 was the two door version of the (then) technically advanced 140 series, introduced in 1966. The 140 had many modern features we take for granted today-such as crumple zones, a built in roll over bar, dual circuit brakes, disc brakes all round, laminated windscreen, etc.
The two door version was introduced in 1967 and introduced into the UK the same year. It didn't sell well though (something peculiar to the UK and it's dislike of large two door cars, I think), and by 1969 was no longer imported. Volvo learnt it's lesson, and when the turn of the 240 came they didn't bother importing the two door (242) at all.
This particular example was found on Ebay and had been lounging in an open sided barn for the best part of 20 years. To say it was rotten would be an understatement- I've had to replace the doors, sills, floors and bootlid. If I could find a bonnet for reasonable cost I'd be replacing that too!
